L.E.K. Consulting
- Promoted three times, to post-MBA-hire level on departure
- Nine months seconded to the New York office
- Led project teams of four to six consultants
L.E.K. is a strategy consultancy that does corporate strategy and due diligence on private-equity deals. It’s where I trained, four years across the London office and, for nine months, New York, leading small teams under real time pressure and working directly with CEOs and CFOs.
A few of the projects I worked on:
- US insurer: built a growth plan that found $150m a year of revenue upside and a list of acquisition targets, working daily with the CEO and CFO. It led to two acquisitions.
- WWE: shaped the market-by-market strategy for taking its media rights into new territories.
- Sky: advised on launching an MVNO mobile network in the UK, from market entry to commercial model.
- dmg media: a plan to double the £40m Mail Travel business by moving from packaged tours into cruises.
- Driverless cars: led an L.E.K. report on how they would reshape transport, presented to 30 prospective clients including Uber.
- A European blinds and curtains maker: due diligence that led to a £300m private-equity acquisition.
